TMN Simulation, a business unit of Thyer Macleod Network, now handles all simulation modelling and consultancy. Please visit the new website www.tmnsimulation.com.au for more details. There's also a lot more info about simulation and simulation modelling, including news and case studies.
Simulation modelling takes many forms,
from awesome virtual reality 3-D visualisations to
"brute force, run a 1000 variations till it
works" type models (known as Monte Carlo
Simulations). Each type has its place, and
their use is dictated by circumstance.
Simulation models are best used in
processes with high variability in terms of inputs and
throughputs, where risks and costs are high, and where
there is no real-world history to learn from.
Specific
examples of using simulation are:
-
resourcing levels in call centres
-
identification of bottlenecks in
processing
-
inventory control
-
capacity planning
Through a series of workshops and meetings
(depending on the complexity of the job) we will
build you a simulation model and (if you wish)
report on the results.
The results of each simulation can be analysed graphically through 3D animation, and
through statistical reports and graphs, which are
both excellent for communicating a model's purpose
and results to technical and non-technical
audiences.
Simulation is perhaps the single most
pragmatic behaviour that innovative companies can
apply to improving their ongoing processes. It's
both a tool and practice that has the potential to
immediately generate a ten, hundred, or
thousand-fold return.
